Ban Huay Nam Khao School

“CMTR Playgrounds +” Ban Huay Nam Khao School

Huay Nam Khao School

The Ban Huay Nam Khao School is located approximately 36km south of Chiang Mai.  The Chiang Mai ToyRide committee was advised that it is one of the poorest schools in the Hang Dong/ Mae Wang District 4 school area.

On an initial survey visit we found the school to actually be in quite good condition. The teachers and staff are providing a number of admirable programs for the students.  The children however come from quite poor villages and families.

On June 24, 2010 the “fun” events took place.  A group of our dedicated and generous riders first met at Richco Motorsports in the AM and shared the provided coffee and rolls. We then rode to Carrefour Shopping Centre, near Hang Dong, where we met up with more riders and staff from the school board.  The rain was holding off, and 21 motorcycles joined in the ride to Ban Huay Nam Khao School.

Toy Riders quickly set up tables and loaded them with toys, sports equipment, learning materials, quality book bags/backpacks and some snacks for all involved.

Toys and Equipment for the Kids

We were welcomed by staff and officials from the school board and the school itself.  The obligatory speeches and welcomes were exchanged, and then the anxiously awaiting students were set free for a break from there studies to enjoy a morning of fun and games.

Muay Thai DonationEducational Materials

The Toy Riders enthusiastically joined in our tug of war with the students. This has become a standard opener to our events and is a great ice breaker for the children and adults alike.  Of course we are yet to win one (yes, we do try to win),

Tug of War Perhaps we lose because we let the kids practice first.

Next the table tennis was prepared and some fun matches soon took place.

Action Shot

The school principle advised us that he had been trying for some time to obtain mosquito screens for the windows and doors of the kindergarten building.   The playground area also needed refurbishing, and the CMTR provided funding to meet all these needs prior to the event.

Window and Door Screens

This is the first time a school has requested Muay Thai equipment to be donated.  The kids quickly donned their gear, and fearlessly began their training bouts.

The Chiang Mai ToyRide Clowns are always a great hit with the kids!!!

This was another fun event.  But more importantly, the children and school received needed items, and hopefully, it reinforced in the children the feeling of pride, self esteem, and the knowledge that people really do care about them.

Happy Children !

Thanks to all who contributed at our main  CMTR event, our sponsors, and the attendees, who took the time to share the day with us.

How Can I Help?

Chiang Mai ToyRide

21 February 2010: Our third annual charity motorcycle parade through
Chiang Mai, then on to the X‐Centre in Mae Rim for a children’s donation
party with food, drink, music, games and entertainment for everyone was a resounding success!

With the wholehearted support of local and regional bike groups, motorcycle enthusiasts, government authorities and the general public, Chiang Mai ToyRide Events have collected a mountain of toys, as well as raising over a half million baht, which was used to donate goods to children in need: educational materials, warm blankets, athletic equipment, medical supplies, and food.

Chiang Mai ToyRide 2008, 2009  and 2010 gained wide coverage in both print and on television when hundreds of bikers rode together to help children in need. Additional rides and charitable events at schools, hospitals and in remote villages kept the ride and its sponsors prominent in the media throughout the year.

While benefiting from this media exposure, sponsorships gives companies and individuals excellent opportunities to support a popular, visually
stunning and growing community tradition.

San Tor School “Playgrounds +” 30-Sept-2009

CMTR Playground Plus! San Tor School, Hang Dong District.

September 30, we met at Richco Motorsports (Harley Davidson) in Chiang Mai. With motorcycles, cars and trucks we headed for San Tor School in Hang Dong.  At this school of approximately 73 children, age 5-12 years of age, we will have lunch, snacks, games and a clown.

Caravan to San Tor School

When we arrived at the school they had one football.  When we left, they had considerably more. As part of our Playgrounds Plus program we would donate a Ping Pong table (table tennis), athletic equipment, games and a computer; which were items requested by the students and staff.  Also, for the first time, we donated backpacks/book bags bearing the CMTR logo which have been custom made for the Chiang Mai ToyRide.

It was a terrific day.  The weather, although hot, was dry and the skies clear.  We played tug-of-war with the children, and maintained our record of losses.  Frisbee was a big hit, as was the table tennis, and other games.

English Teacher, Mary, and Principal

Wun Pen (English Teacher), Mary and School Principal

Mary is a part time volunteer at San Tor school who brought the school to our attention.  Her help was invaluable.  She also contributed a computer to the Chiang Mai ToyRide for presentation to the school’s English teacher, Khun Wun Pen.  The teacher’s reaction, and heartfelt thanks had everyone on the verge of tears.

Books for the library were also part of the donations.

A day of clowns, snacks, games, and cheering, happy, children was enjoyed by all.  Please come join us at our next event and also help the Chiang Mai ToyRide help the children.  Donate what you can.

Mary said it best;

Thank you ALL for the most wonderful day!

You really touched the hearts of so many yesterday with your kindness and generosity.

The pictures are really great, but I’ve also been having the loveliest flashbacks:

Your “Ta-ra-ra-boom-de-ay”  “We Are Here”  arrival!

Uniformed children so patiently waiting for the formalities…………….. to stop;

The “Toy Ride Elves” passing out backpacks, gifts and lunches;

Cool glasses of water finally arriving as the sweat glistened off all our anglo-falang brows;

Kuhn Wunpen’s heartfelt, almost tear triggering thank you speech and her excitement when she saw the new library computer;

And all the while, clowns entertained, and happy, laughing children played with their new sport gear and toys on the lawn!

Santor School and I are forever grateful!

Our pleasure, Mary!

Football Jerseys for Bo Kaeo Schools

The Chiang Mai ToyRide received a request to donate football uniforms to two Bo Khaeo Schools near Samoeng.

On August 1, 2009 the two teams  competed against each other. We rode to  Samoeng to watch the game, cheer the kids on and take some photos.

Although these guys were a little older than our usual age group, they were just as thrilled to receive our uniforms and display the CMTR Logo.

It was a good game also……….
