Ban Huay Nam Khao School
“CMTR Playgrounds +” Ban Huay Nam Khao School
The Ban Huay Nam Khao School is located approximately 36km south of Chiang Mai. The Chiang Mai ToyRide committee was advised that it is one of the poorest schools in the Hang Dong/ Mae Wang District 4 school area.
On an initial survey visit we found the school to actually be in quite good condition. The teachers and staff are providing a number of admirable programs for the students. The children however come from quite poor villages and families.
On June 24, 2010 the “fun” events took place. A group of our dedicated and generous riders first met at Richco Motorsports in the AM and shared the provided coffee and rolls. We then rode to Carrefour Shopping Centre, near Hang Dong, where we met up with more riders and staff from the school board. The rain was holding off, and 21 motorcycles joined in the ride to Ban Huay Nam Khao School.
Toy Riders quickly set up tables and loaded them with toys, sports equipment, learning materials, quality book bags/backpacks and some snacks for all involved.
We were welcomed by staff and officials from the school board and the school itself. The obligatory speeches and welcomes were exchanged, and then the anxiously awaiting students were set free for a break from there studies to enjoy a morning of fun and games.
The Toy Riders enthusiastically joined in our tug of war with the students. This has become a standard opener to our events and is a great ice breaker for the children and adults alike. Of course we are yet to win one (yes, we do try to win),
Perhaps we lose because we let the kids practice first.
Next the table tennis was prepared and some fun matches soon took place.
The school principle advised us that he had been trying for some time to obtain mosquito screens for the windows and doors of the kindergarten building. The playground area also needed refurbishing, and the CMTR provided funding to meet all these needs prior to the event.
This is the first time a school has requested Muay Thai equipment to be donated. The kids quickly donned their gear, and fearlessly began their training bouts.
The Chiang Mai ToyRide Clowns are always a great hit with the kids!!!
This was another fun event. But more importantly, the children and school received needed items, and hopefully, it reinforced in the children the feeling of pride, self esteem, and the knowledge that people really do care about them.
Thanks to all who contributed at our main CMTR event, our sponsors, and the attendees, who took the time to share the day with us.
